With the horrific massacre in Orlando still fresh on my mind, I can’t help but think of the fathers of those killed last week and how devastated they will be this Father’s Day. I can not even imagine what they must be feeling. While I don’t know any of the victims or their families personally, I feel connected to them somehow. As I’m sure many of you have, I’ve cried with them as they were interviewed on television. I’ve stared at the victim’s pictures and thought of the many friends of mine who, just as easily, could have been there that night.
In honor of all of those who lost their lives and the fathers who are grieving at this moment, I promise to make sure my father knows how much I love him and how grateful I am for all he’s done for me. I promise to do all that I can to raise our son to be accepting of and kind to others, and to teach him to never let hatred enter his heart. Most of all, I promise not to take my life for granted. I am blessed to be able to love, to laugh, and to let others know how much they mean to me.
I invite all of you to spend this Father’s Day loving one another and making the most of each moment together.
